Welcome to the beta

3 min read

After months of private testing, Irkless is open. Anyone can sign up at irkless.com/beta. It took us slightly longer than planned, but I think the extra few weeks from our initial beta target date were worth it.

There's a lot in the app already. Capture goes through an Inbox; from there you organise into Areas (life buckets), Projects (multi-step outcomes), and Tags (cross-cutting threads). The weekly review flow is built in. Forecast View shows what's coming over the next few days (or weeks, or months), in one place. Almost everything has a keyboard shortcut, drag and drop is wired up where it earns its keep, and there are more than two dozen themes if you've ever wanted a task app to feel like home. A robust syncing mechanism keeps your changes safe, so closing your laptop never costs you a thought.

Some bits are still a bit rough around the edges, and we'd rather flag that now than have you find out the hard way. The mobile experience (just!) works but isn't where we want it yet; desktop web is the polished surfaces we always planned on launching first. Sync has a couple of edge cases we're still chasing in unusual offline-to-online transitions. If you trip over one, please tell us about it. The most recently added functionality is where you're most likely to find inconsistencies - at the moment that recurring tasks, undo/redo and headers.

The parts we trust, we trust hard. Daily use by real people over the last several months has shaken out the worst of the edge cases. The data layer is honest about what it owes the server, the sync queue self-heals from anything stuck, and we use the app every day to plan and ship our own work — including the work of getting it ready for you.

For feedback, the community forum is the best place to land it. The forum is gated to signed-up users (you can always access the forum from your profile menu in Irkless), so if you haven't joined yet, that link will take you to a login page first. Once you're in, the forum is where bug reports, feature requests, and "is this how it's meant to work?" questions go. The team is small, which means whoever reads your post is usually one of the people who can do something about it.

A note on how trial works during beta - it's free during the beta. Once the beta concludes you'll start a full 30 day trial the same as anyone signing up, but as thankyou for coming in early anyone who signs up while we're in beta will receive a 20% lifetime discount.

Have a look around, and if Irkless doesn't quite align with how you think - we wish you well on finding that elusive tool that 'gets' you - hopefully Irkless is that tool for some of you.
